5:00 am	back from the...dead? well...not really. I haven't used my LJ for a while...I'm going to start using it again for day to day things instead of using facebook so much. 11:49 am	Watson: Racism and DNA A British museum has canceled a lecture by Dr. James Watson, co-founder of the DNA double helix, after he claimed black people are less intelligent than whites in a recent newspaper interview. Ah, racism dies hard, doesn't it? The irony: he never would have gotten the nobel prize if it hadn't been due to the work of a woman named Rosalind Franklin, whose gorgeous images of the double helix (which were stolen by a misogynist competetive scientist in her lab and sent to Crick and Watson) were the foundation, or "missing link" to their research. Not only was she a woman (who was shunned by the scientific community in the 30s and 40s, and died of cancer when she was 37), but she was a Jew. Personally...I think "1962 Watson" said it best: "A goodly number of scientists," Watson explained, "are not only narrow-minded and dull but also just stupid. Amen, you racist relic.
